We read a very mixed variety of reviews of the DeLonghi TRV0715T oil filled radiator heater.
This is the vento high speed convection model that has a timer which is programmable. Its list
price is $105 making it one of the most expensive portable room heaters we have been aware of.
Most of these oil filled heaters have a smell that some people find objectionable but with
this model it reportedly went away in just a few hours when the users followed the directions
that came with the product. You can also put a few drops of aromatic oil on the top fins when
you first fire the heater up, or else when you first turn it on, position it near an open
window.
People who purchased this radiator liked its design, calling it cute and lovely. Its slim
profile makes it easy to store. More important is that it heats up fast. We were however a bit
worried when we read one reviewer who cautioned that they recommend strongly reading the
instruction booklet before you plug the unit in because if you do not follow the directions
you might put too much stress on the electrical outlets or circuitry of your home. This sounds
quite alarming.
Regarding the programming, although it may be a bit of a chore to learn when you first take it
out of the box, those who master its complexities say that the design is ingenious. There is a
dial where you set the current time and a circle of very small red levers that are on and off
controls. When the lever is moved into the middle of the circle this represents an on time.
Similarly, when you move a lever towards the outer part of the circle this will shut the
heater off at that time period. This method is reportedly simpler and less confusing than
computerized digital controls.
Contrary to several positive reviews, another person who bought it said it was a waste of
money, the thermostat controls are too difficult to figure out and the radiator does not even
put out enough heat to warm a small bedroom. We are not certain but suspect that this consumer
failed to read and understand the instructions which may be more complicated than those of
most oil filled radiator heaters now on the market.
